Abbi was baptized on her 8th birthday. We joked that she was actually baptized before she turned 8 since she was baptized at 10:30 and she didn't turn 8 until 11:11.
I took this picture right after Abbi was baptized (so yes we are in the bathroom).
I wanted her to remember that moment forever.
Her Grandma Haynie made her white dress that she wore after getting baptized.
We had a nice get together afterwards with family and friends. A yummy brunch of crepes, fruit and egg casserole. My kids love crepes (they get that from me... well, and everyone loves crepes).
And since it was her birthday, we celebrated that too.
I can tell Abbi is growing up since she didn't want a decorated cake. She requested this layered coconut cake (that took me just as long as a decorated cake would have- it was quite involved). But it was fabulous (she gets the coconut love from me too).
She got the blue bike she requested also.
And to make the day more special (or complicated) we celebrated her birthday some more after all the family had left. We took a few friends and Grandma Francom to the Grand America Hotel for afternoon tea. We debated doing it another day but instead of dealing with different schedules on different days, it was just easier to get it all done in one day. It was fancy. That whole place is fancy.
It's just in a room off the hotel lobby but everything is so fancy and nice. Plus there is a lady playing a harp while you eat.
They first let us each order our own tea. The berry tea was popular with the girls.
Then there was a tray of finger sandwiches and such.
Then a tray of dessert.
It was all fabulous.
The girls were giddy with excitement over how fancy everything was and how fancy they felt being there. I found it interesting that some people would just casually stroll in for "afternoon tea". Especially because of the price tag. They looked like they had been shopping and now were going to relax and have a snack. An expensive snack. One man (who was not having tea) came over to me while we were there and in his British accent told me how he loved watching the little girls loving having tea and how it reminded him of his childhood in England.
My favorite part was when the harp started playing "Happy Birthday" and they brought out a special cake with a birthday candle in it (creme brulee) just for Abbi.
It was all a fun experience that was especially appropriate for an 8th birthday.
After tea we went to the lobby to look at the amazing bouquet of flowers they had. I assumed they were fake but they were real and smelled wonderful! One fancy place.
It was a great 8th birthday. How special it was for Abbi to get baptized on her birthday. Now she'll never forget the date. We love Abbi. We are so blessed to have her in our family.
